Gula K has grown alongside Israel's electronic underground since the trance scene's earliest days in the late 1990s — the first Djane to hold her own in that world, playing a real part in shaping the scene into what it is today. Her sets move fluidly between Progressive, Goa and Psy, Psytrance and Forest, Psytech, and Techno, built around stomping beats, long emotional arcs, and her own productions woven through the mix. She started out on DATs, moved through turntables and CDs, and can still play a full vinyl Goa set on request — a skill that's increasingly rare in the scene today. That range, paired with a background in sound engineering, has made her a constant presence on both techno and trance line-ups across Tel Aviv and Israel's festival circuit — including DOOF, TAZ, MOKSHA, INDIGO, and Genesis, one of Israel's biggest festivals of the last few years.

The road eventually pulled her east and west. She headlined the legendary Full Moon parties in Koh Phangan, Thailand, and played across Goa, India — the spiritual home of the sound she grew up on. She also lived and played in Guatemala for two years, until around 2010. It was never the center of the story, but the cultures and landscapes she moved through on the road — Guatemala included — still echo quietly through her sound, layered in as ethnic touches and psychedelic detail rather than sitting at the front of it.

Her track "Consciousness," made with Captain Hook, reached the top 10 and held the charts for two months. New productions are on the way.

In 2018, that same fight showed up off the decks. Gula was part of the organizing team behind "We Will Dance Freely," a demonstration that brought an estimated 50,000 people to Rabin Square in Tel Aviv — protesting police persecution of Israel's party and trance scene, and demanding legitimacy: laws that respect and protect their culture instead of criminalizing it.

The spiritual side of Gula's life isn't a footnote to the music — it's the ground it stands on. She practices meditation and spiritual work daily, on and off the decks; it's simply part of how she moves through a day, not something she picks up for a festival. Sivananda-certified as a yoga teacher and rebirthing practitioner, she brings that same presence to a set that she brings to a meditation — it's the throughline behind the emotional builds in her DJing, the ethnic and psychedelic textures in her newest productions, and Trance Sacred Women, the community project she produces with Be AT and two women partners. That same instinct to pass things on shows up off the decks too, as a mentor and teacher for young, emerging artists finding their own way into the scene.

"The dancefloor is sacred to me — it's a healing zone." — Gula K

Trance Sacred Women

Produced by Be AT

Nine years ago, it started as a dream between three women, born in a time of real conflict and division in Israeli society. Out of the wish to use the spaces they already had — not to widen the lines between people, but to bridge them — Be AT created Trance Sacred Women. Women from every layer of a deeply heterogeneous society find what they actually share there: the music, the dance — not what sets them apart. Every one of the dozens of parties since has been built, run, and held by women, from the ground up. Nine years later, it still feels like the first night.
